Flames win to up lead in divisional race

The Twins’ catcher is Hunter Betts. – Photo by Janeen Cain PLYMOUTH – The Plymouth Flames scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to key a 7-5 comeback win over Thiensville-Mequon in Rock River Baseball League play Sunday afternoon Carl Loebe Field.

The Flames increased their Northeast Division lead to three games over Thiensville- Mequon. Plymouth improved to 11-3 in the league (18-7 overall). The Twins dropped to 7-5 in the division.

Plymouth trailed 4-3 heading into the last of the fifth. Luke Held’s RBI double tied the game, 4-4. Tyler Willeford and Clay Henning contributed RBI singles and Matt Rhude brought in a run with a bases-loaded walk as the home team went up 7-4.

Henning, Held and Willeford spearheaded the Flames’ attack with three hits each. Matt Olig and Rhude had a team-high two RBIs apiece. PHS pounded out 13 hits.

Cain allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts in seven innings.

Rhude earned a save – closing out the game with two scoreless frames. He gave up no hits and one walk to go with three whiffs.

Ryan Worm and Dane Lamont paced the Twins in hits with two each. Luke Scheuerlein had a team-best two RBIs.

Worm was the losing hurler, going the distance. He surrendered seven earned runs and five walks while striking out two.
