Emerald Ash Borer found here

The emerald ash borer has been found at the Plymouth wastewater treatment plant entrance on County PP, city officials have confirmed. The partially-dead ash tree has exhibited signs of EAB infestation, including small D-shaped exit holes in the tree’s bark. Examination of the tree by peeling the bark led to the observation of S-shaped tunneling and ultimately EAB larvae (above). “We know at least two trees (at the plant) have it,” City Administrator Brian Yerges said of the EAB infestation. Native to China, the borer was first found in the U.S. in the Detroit, Mich., area in 2002. It was first discovered in Wisconsin in Newburg in Washington County in 2008 and additional counties and communities, including Sheboygan County, have been identified as having EAB since. The trees at the wastewater treatment plant are the first infestation identified in Plymouth, Yerges said. He added that property owners concerned about trees on private property can got to datcpservices.wisconsin.gov/eab/index.jsp for more information. Submitted photo
