Funeral service pre-planning promoted

On June 16, the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice hosted a Lunch & Learn informing community members of ways they can be prepared if found in a vegetative or terminally ill circumstance.

This Lunch & Learn was cosponsored by Ballhorn Chapels and Zimmer Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Centers. Guests were presented information about end-of life planning, specifically ‘Advance Health Care Planning’ and ‘Advance Funeral Planning.’

Lee Mitchler and John Martin, social workers on the Community Care Team at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, described the ‘Advance Health Care Planning’ procedure versus other documents, such as a Living Will, and emphasized the importance of making these prearrangements for their friends and family.

“It’s an act of love,” said Mitchler, expressing the lessened emotional weight carried by loved ones when individuals have their pre-planned healthcare directive completed.

Pam Burkel, the Family Service Counselor at Ballhorn Chapels, discussed the benefits of pre-planning and pre-funding your funeral. Pam explained that this is one the of greatest gifts you can give to your loved ones at a highly emotional time. This allows them to concentrate on the celebration of your life rather than the details of your death.

The next Lunch & Learn will be held at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice on July 25, 2016 at 12 noon. Pre-registration is required for this free event. Please call Pam Burkel at 920-457-4455 to register or for more information.
