STEVEN J. SCHWONEK

Steven J. Schwonek, 55, passed away of natural causes at his home.

He was born in Sheboygan on September 6, 1960, the son of Harlan and RoseMarie (nee Gaerthoefner) Schwonek.

He attended and graduated from St. Dominic Grade School and North High School. Steve then furthered his education and earned his Associates Degree in Auto Mechanics from Lakeshore Technical College.

Steve started his working career at a young age, as a pre-teen he was a newspaper carrier for the Sheboygan Press. From that start he progressed to a local bicycle shop, assembling and maintaining the bicycles sold at the store. After earning his degree from Lakeshore Technical College Steve worked for the next 30 years at a number of automotive dealerships in the Sheboygan area. Through the years many customers requested Steve to service their vehicle. He always felt it was important to check the vehicles thoroughly and alert customers to any future required maintenance and expenses.

During his working career he further earned master technician status. With his mechanical abilities many family members, relatives and neighbors often asked for his assistance at their homes or with their vehicles.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting with his father Harlan and fishing with his daughters.

Survivors include his three daughters: Kimberly (Darin) Jorgensen, of Sheboygan, Melissa (Drew) Kordus, of Kiel, and Eden Kaminski, of Chicago; two grandchildren: Jax and Ava Kordus; a sister: Jean Schwonek; and his brother: Dave Schwonek, both of Milwaukee. Steve is also survived by his father: Harlan (Joann) Schwonek; his aunt: Rae Bortz, all of Plymouth and cousins, and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his mother: Rosemarie, aunts, uncles, cousins, maternal grandparents: Joseph and Marie (nee Kaltenbrun) Gaerthoefner; and paternal grandparents,:Ralph and Mattie (nee Schmuhl) Schwonek.

A memorial service for Steven will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 12 p.m. at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th St., Sheboygan. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m.. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
