Robert E. Ames, 87, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Anita’s Gardens in Plymouth, where he had been a resident for the past month.

He was born in Long Beach, CA on September 6, 1928, son of the late Thomas J. and Margaret (Crimmel) Ames.

Bob graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1946. Following high school, he worked at Montgomery Ward & Mastic Tile Co. in Long Beach. While living in Long Beach, he was a member of the California National Guard.

On May 3, 1958, Bob married Glenda Hoffman at First Congregational U.C.C. in Plymouth. The couple lived in Long Beach for the first three years of their marriage. They moved back to Plymouth in December 1961 where they have resided since.

Bob worked at Gilson Brothers and later at Borden’s in Plymouth, retiring in 1991. After retirement, he worked part time delivering flowers for Brown’s Floral in Plymouth and as a custodian at First Congregational U.C.C.

He enjoyed history, reading, gardening, puzzles, watching the local weatherman, and a good dish of ice cream. He also loved to travel and instilled his love and appreciation of our National Parks into his children at an early age.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years: Glenda of Plymouth; three children: David (Wendy) Ames of Sheboygan, Lisa Ames (special friend: Gary Myrah) of Milwaukee and Laurie (Dan) Volkomener of Plymouth; three grandchildren: Sam Ames of Sheboygan, Calli Ames of Milwaukee and Jacob Ames of Sheboygan; sister: Carolyn Bartholomew of Huntington Beach, CA; and brother-in-law: Graham (Liz) Hoffman of Plymouth.

Bob is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law: Ray and Florence Hoffman; brother: Richard Ames; and brother in-law: Charles Bartholomew.

Following Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Visitation was held on Monday July 18, 2016, at First Congregational U.C.C. in Plymouth from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. A Memorial Service took place at 7 p.m. with Rev. William Rishel, Pastor of the Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Bob’s name.
