Family builds stage for orchard concerts

When the Dutter family of Gibbsville (down the road on State 32 from the cheese factory) purchased the overgrown and “needing nurturing” fruit orchard in Gibbsville, they had a vision to also share their artistic talent and health food interests via their general store at the orchard. Now they are supplying the Sheboygan County communities with the added gift of a beautifully constructed and permanent performance stage where musicians can be sheltered, out of doors, and share musical talent via concerts, jamming and open mics.

They are opening the stage to the public for the first time Saturday, Aug. 6 from 4-7 p.m. Headlining this performance will be Indiana folk artist legend Tim Grimm. Grimm has moved back to his Midwestern roots after having acted in films and TV in Hollywood for the first half of his career. He transferred his love for theatre and acting into songwriting and performing to have successfully-produced, award-winning songs, albums and feature film music.

Grimm will be arriving in Wisconsin in early August after completing three months of European concerts. His love of the Midwest, living off the land and “real life” ballads is a perfect fit for Sheboygan County audiences. The orchard project of constructing a stage for the community was a perfect fit for Grimm’s philosophy of giving back to people. When invited to spend a few hours being part of this event, Grimm was thrilled to be asked and eager to support the effort.

“This Big Life,” a group of multi-talented musicians from Sheboygan and Milwaukee counties, also were excited to kick off this new stage by performing the same evening as Grimm. Although relatively new as a band, they have picked up enough energy and audience appeal to have just played at Steel Bridge Festival in Sturgeon Bay, Side stage at Summerfest, and Bastille Days in Milwaukee this summer. They are excited to be joining Tim and his band on Aug. 6.

This family friendly evening will begin at 4 p.m. to include food and beverages throughout the concert.
