Held powers Flames to Rock River rout

PLYMOUTH – Luke Held slugged two home runs and had a team-high four RBIs to spark the Plymouth Flames to a 13-5 pounding of Oakfield in a Rock River Baseball League game Friday night at Carl Loebe Field.

The Flames, who snapped a three-game losing streak, upped their first-place Northeast Division record to 12-3 (19-10 overall). The Oaks slipped to 9-7 in the Northwest Division.

Held blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning which gave Plymouth a 4-0 lead. He added a two-run shot in the Flames’ seven-run seventh which built their lead to 13-5. Another key hit in the outburst was Zac Cain’s three-run single.

The Flames exploded for 16 hits, spearheaded by Greg Krahn, Held and Matt Olig with three each. Cain and Olig contributed three RBIs each, followed by Clay Henning with two. Held scored a team-high three runs.

Jake Klemme was the winning pitcher and Ryan Wachter earned a save. Klemme allowed four runs (all earned) on 10 hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings.

Wachter gave up one run (unearned) on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts in four frames.

The Oaks’ attack was led by Colin DeBoer, Jordan Daane, Ian Zahn and Taylor Weisnicht with two hits each. Craig Winske and Zahn had a team-best two RBIs apiece.

The losing hurler was Weisnicht, the starter, who allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits with two walks, a hit batter and four strikeouts in six innings.

The Flames-Grafton game, scheduled Sunday, was rained out. The contest has been re scheduled for Aug. 6 at Grafton at 1:30 p.m.
