Get serious

To the Editor,

The 2016 political campaigns can be overwhelming. Political pundits and the media hype add to the frustration and hostility. It’s time to consider the facts and truthfully decide morally and ethically in which direction we want our country to go.

The Tea Party tried to move this country backwards. And they have in some instances!

A small percentage of our voters have used negativity to the point of hatred to hold us to outdated ideas proven to be detrimental. If Donald Trump is elected and the Republicans continue to hold the Senate, we will have more of the same.

Capitalism is their sacred cow and they want no part of rules and regulations. They believe privatization is the universal answer to all our country’s problems. There are winners but too many losers in unfettered Capitalism.

Ron Johnson and Paul Ryan will continue to strive for privatization of our Social Security System. Both young and old should fear this.

Social Security and Medicare turned out to be two of our most successful and needed programs. A fact is that our Social Security System has a surplus of 2.8 trillion dollars in treasury bonds. Some politicians want to use it to help pay off our debt. There are wiser and more humane ways to deal with that problem.

Russ Feingold will fight to maintain and improve Social Security. His track record is good. He’s a moderate Democrat and truly supports the best interests of the working class. Vote Blue in November!

If there are folks that are unsure or confused about new voting regulations, contact your clerk and ask questions on line, or talk to your family and friends. Most importantly, whatever your affiliation, VOTE!

Help our country to continue moving forward for the betterment of all of us!

Mary Ann Jordan
