Meals on Wheels burns mortgage

A unique five-foot-long Viking ship was set on fire by Fresh Meals On Wheels of Sheboygan County on Wednesday, August 10th at North Point in Sheboygan.

The Coast Guard was notified. The Sheboygan Yacht Club’s commodore Michael Tock and SEAS were on hand for any potential safety hazards. Afterwards a toast is shared in honor everyone in the community who contributed.

The ceremony and celebration are a culmination of events that began in 2010, when Meals On Wheels of Sheboygan County’s Board of Directors made the momentous decision to build a kitchen and incorporate fresh, locally grown produce in meals.

The project, with a $3.2 million price tag, was completed in 2012 and over 200,000 fresh meals have been delivered from the new headquarters at 1004 South Taylor Drive in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

With help from 42 foundations, 413 companies, churches, and service organizations and 2,642 families and individuals the mortgage has been paid in full, well ahead of schedule. This has allowed the organization to focus almost solely on increasing the number of individuals served.

“Census numbers combined with federal statistics show there are hundreds more in need of our service in this community. We exist to help, so if you know someone who could benefit from receiving fresh meals, please reach out to us,” said Kelly Heyn, Meals On Wheels of Sheboygan County CEO.
