Tigers earn shutout in season opener

NEENAH – The Howards Grove Tigers kicked off their boys soccer season Tuesday evening with a 2-0 win over host St. Mary Catholic in Big East Conference action.

Scoring goals were Jordan Peterson and Will Rautmann. Peterson assisted on Rautmann’s tally. The Tigers held an impressive 18-6 edge in shots on goal.

HG goalie Austin Bender made six saves, including two on penalty kicks.

“He [Bender] had an incredible night for us,” said new Tiger head coach Bob Peterson.

“Our back-four defenders [Bryce Pedrin, Jack Baldwin, Travis Eilers and Keegan Rhynas] were very good and kept the ball on our side of the field for over 80 percent of the game.

“Overall, everybody contributed in our win and we played very well for our first game of the season with this young team,” said Peterson.
