Utilities holding recycling event

In an effort to help local residents and businesses recycle electronic devices, light bulbs, ballasts and small appliances, Plymouth Utilities is hosting a recycling event from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Plymouth city garage, 1004 Valley Rd.

Items accepted for free include: computer CPU’s, printers, servers, network equipment, copiers, paper shredders, typewriters, telephone systems, cell phones, mice, keyboards, fax machines, VCR and DVD players, radios and stereo equipment, non-PCB ballasts, rechargeable batteries, microwave ovens, dehumidifiers, portable room air conditioners and dorm-sized refrigerators.

A fee of $15 will be charged for tube-type television sets and $10 for CRT computer monitors. A small fee will be required to recycle items such as light bulbs (incandescent, compact fluorescent, fluorescent tubes, H.I.D., etc.), PCB contaminated ballasts and alkaline batteries.

At their May 24 recycling event, Plymouth Utilities collected over 100 televisions and nearly 30 CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors, plus numerous dehumidifiers, window AC units and electronics totaling roughly 2,800 cubic feet of recycling waste. Staff also collected more than 1,600 fluorescent tubes and 600 pounds of batteries.
