Learn to swim or kayak

Plymouth School District Community Education and Recreation is offering Kayaking and Child Swim Lessons this fall, as well as a screening of the documentary “Alive Inside.”

“Alive Inside,” which won the Sundance Audience Award, is described as an uplifting cinematic experience of music and mind. This stirring documentary follows social worker Dan Cohen as he fights against a broken health-care system to demonstrate music’s ability to combat memory loss. The 90-minute film will be shown at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 in the Plymouth High School Auditorium, 125 Highland Ave. Admission is free.

In addition, register by Sept. 23 and save $10 on the following classes:

Kayaking: Those ages 6 and up can experience this great recreational activity on local Gerber Lake. Kayaks (weight limit 250 pounds), paddles and life preservers will be provided. Class will meet with instructor Andrew Arentsen from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturdays Oct. 1 and 8; fee is $20 ($16 for Generations members and district residents ages 62 and up) until Sept. 23, then $30.

Child Swim Lessons: Experienced teachers follow the American Red Cross six comprehensive course levels to teach children to swim skillfully and safely in the PHS pool. Children must be 50 inches tall. Classes will meet Saturday mornings from Oct. 1 to Dec. 10 (except Nov. 5, 26; Dec. 3); times vary by level. Fee is $41 until Sept. 23, then $51.

Morning Lap Swim now will begin Friday, Sept. 9. Lap swim now will be available 8:15-9:15pm Tuesdays & Thursdays Sept. 8-Dec. 15 (except Sept. 15, 22; Oct. 6; Nov. 24, 29); 7:30-8:30am Saturdays, Oct. 1-Dec. 10 (except Nov. 5, 26; Dec. 3); 6-7am Wednesdays Nov. 2-Dec. 14 (except Nov. 23; 6-7am Fridays Sept. 9-Dec. 16; fee is $45 (seniors $38) for early mornings, $60 ($50) for Tuesday & Thursday evenings, $34 ($29) for Saturdays only, and $70 ($58) for unlimited.
