EL-G wins shoot-out behind Shaw’s big game

OAKFIELD – Senior quarterback Jared Shaw exploded for a career-high 270 yards rushing and seven touchdowns to power the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters to a 60-52 win over host Oakfield in a Great 8 Conference South Division eight-man football game Friday night.

The Resorters, who scored a season-high point total, upped their division record to 1-1 (2-1 overall). The Oaks dropped to 0-2 in the South (1-2 overall).

Shaw’s rushing performance was highlighted by a 66-yard scoring dash with 25 seconds left in the second quarter which gave the Resorters a 26-14 halftime lead. His other long TD runs included a pair from 38 yards out.

Shaw also fired a 19-yard TD pass to senior running back Brennen Cain.

The Resorters’ other TD came on a 77-yard kickoff return by senior Dyllan Konen which started the second half and gave his team a 32-14 advantage.

The Oaks trailed 48-30 after three quarters but scored three TDs in the final period to slice Elkhart’s lead to 54-52 with 1:43 left.

Shaw made it 60-52 with a 38- yard TD run with only eight seconds remaining.

EL-G racked up a season-high 339 yards on the ground. Both teams had over 400 yards in total offense, led by Oakfield’s 453.

“We played great defense in the first half, holding them to 14 points. But we couldn’t contain the passing game in the second half,” said Resorter head coach Josh Bardon.

“It was great to see our offense kick into high gear and pull out the game for us. Jared Shaw showed great leadership and had some great passes and runs.”

Cain led the Resorters in receiving with 80 yards on three catches (26.7 average per reception).

Senior defensive end Andrew Sitko led EL-G in solo tackles with five. Shaw had an interception from his defensive back spot.
