ECC leader KML sweeps Panthers

JACKSON – The Plymouth Panthers ran into a strong Kettle Moraine Lutheran team here Thursday night in girls volleyball play and fell 23-25, 7-25, 15-25.

PHS dropped to 3-2 in East Central Conference dual meets and the Chargers improved their first-place record to 5-0. KML and PHS are expected to contend for the ECC title.

“We were excited to play this match-up and played the first set incredibly well. I thought we were matched up quite well and was happy with our play but we really struggled after that,” said Panther head coach Peggy Huhn.

“Serve receive and down-ball defense were struggles for us [after the first set] which never allowed us to set our middle which set up our offense.

“KML is an incredible volleyball program. I love having them in this conference. They will make us better for sure,” said Huhn.

The Panthers’ statistical leaders included: kills – Megan Goeser seven and Sophie Albert six; solo blocks – Goeser and Albert, two each; digs – Emily Majerus nine and Albert seven; assists – Jessica Schumacher 17; and serve receiving – Emma Grapentine 16-for-16, Albert 10-for-10 and Majerus 20-for-21.
