EL-G girls fifth at Rocket Invitational

CEDAR GROVE – The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters finished fifth in Thursday afternoon’s Cedar Grove-Belgium Rocket Invitational girls cross country meet.

Junior Jessica Mehre led the Resorters with a 12th-place effort in 23 minutes, 55.8 seconds on the 3.1-mile course which was very muddy and wet from recent heavy rain. Emily Sass of Cedar Grove took first in 21:52.9.

Cedar Grove scored an impressive 18 points and easily won the championship. The Rockets owned the first four individual places. Sheboygan Lutheran was second with 75. EL-G tallied 156 and the Howards Grove Tigers were seventh at 161 in the nineteam meet.

The Tigers’ top runner was se- nior Katie Guse who placed seventh with a time of 23:21.6.

HG placed seventh (last) in the boys meet with 183 points. The Tigers were led by Sam Sixel who finished 28th in 20:31.9 over 3.1 miles. Omrow won the title with 25 and Cedar Grove was second at 55. Elkhart had an incomplete squad and was paced by Cody Nelson who took 44th in 24:19.8.

Stephen Lavey of Cedar Grove placed first in 17:50.5.

“I thought my athletes competed hard and handled the conditions well today,” said Tiger head coach Gary Kalk.
