Alzheimer’s Walkers pass $78,000 mark

Sheboygan County residents turned out in full force on Saturday, September 10th, as more than 600 participants turned out for the Walk To End Alzheimer’s at Evergreen Park in Sheboygan.

The Walk, chaired by Lisa Hurley, Caregiver Coordinator with the Sheboygan County Aging & Disability Resouce Center; Erica Gollhardt, Admissions/Marketing Director with Golden LivingCenters – Shebogyan; and Jen Balge, Education Specialist and SPARK! Coordinator with John Michael Kohler Arts Center has already exceeded the $78,500 mark and will keep growing over the next few months as donations continue to roll in.

This year’s event saw a 5.77% increase in money raised over 2015. Over the last 11 years, the Sheboygan County Walk has raised over $693,167 to provide care and support for local individuals living with Alzheimer’s and their families, and advance critical research.

“On behalf of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Erica, Jen and I would like to thank everyone in Sheboygan County for doing an outstanding job raising funds that will help the Alzheimer’s Association fund research and provide care and support services to more than 2362 local people and families living with this disease,” said Lisa Hurley, Walk Co- Chair.

“We can’t thank everyone enough for this outstanding commu- nity effort,” said Tom Hlavacek, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association. “Everyone, from our sponsors to our many walk teams and individual walkers, to our volunteers helped make this day a tremendous success.”

The money raised in Sheboygan County is used to fund research and services including support groups, information and referral services, care consultations and a 24/7 Helpline – 800.272.3900.
