YMCA hosts diabetes classes

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is set to begin with a free informational session Monday, Sept. 26 from 6-6:45 at the Sheboygan YMCA. Registrations received on Sept. 26 will include three 45-minute personal training sessions.

Classes will be held on Monday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. beginning on Monday, Oct. 10. Classes will also take place on Thursday mornings from 10-11 a.m. beginning Thursday, Oct. 20.

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is a group-based lifestyle intervention for adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and has been shown to reduce the number of new cases of diabetes by 58 percent overall and by 71 percent in adults over 60.

Youth under 18 and persons diagnosed with diabetes do not qualify.

Registration forms are available at the Sheboygan YMCA or Sheboygan Falls YMCA one week in advance.
