Huskies emerge winners from Kiel Invitational

Senior forward Tyler Schultz scored two goals to spark New Holstein/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah to a 3-0 win over Random Lake in the championship match of Saturday’s Kiel Boys Soccer Invitational.

Jacob Starnitcky kicked the Huskies’ other goal, assisted by Justin Schultz. Starnitcky, Tyler Schultz and younger brother, Justin Schultz, are students at EL-G.

“We played three very good games and have to give our goalkeeper Jordan Bahr a lot of credit for not allowing any goals all day,” said Husky co-head coach Steve Conrad.

“Our boys played very well together and for the most part came away pretty healthy which is good because we are getting into the tougher part of are season now.

“It [invitational] was a lot of fun and our boys really played good and I am very proud of them. They have been working hard all season,” added Conrad.

The Huskies won its tournament opener, 3-0, over Manitowoc Lincoln. Scoring one goal each were Max Kossman (EL-G student), Josue Valenzuela and Oren Kestell.

In their next match, the Huskies blanked Sheboygan Falls, 3-0. Tyler Schultz, Noah Ruh (from ELG) and Gage Meyer tallied one goal each.

The Huskies, 11-3 this season, have won 10 straight.


The Huskies routed host Green Bay Northeast Wisconsin Lutheran, 8-1, Thursday afternoon. NH/ EL-G upped its first-place Eastern Wisconsin/Packerland Conference record to 5-0. The Blazers fell to 0-5 in the league (1-8-1 overall).

Tyler Schultz earned a hat trick (three goals) to ignite the Huskies’ attack. Justin Schultz scored two goals and Starnitcky, Ruh and Yoshi Lira-Navarro added one each. Kestell and Valenzuela had one assist apiece.

James Haberstein kicked the Blazers’ goal.

Bahr made three saves and Blazer goalie Sam Meerstein had 10.

“We subbed the whole team out with are junior varsity lineup and they did play well and moved the ball very nicely,” Conrad pointed out.

“We played a solid game and almost have all the bugs worked out, and are still improving mentally and physically every day.”
