Tigers earn shutout, end skid

RANDOM LAKE – Sophomore Will Rautmann scored two goals to lead the Howards Grove Tigers past Random Lake, 3-0, in a boys soccer match here Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers snapped a threegame losing streak and improved to 6-4-1 in the Big East Conference (7-7-1 overall). The Rams slipped to 3-6-2 in the BEC (6-10- 3 overall).

Rautmann scored both of his goals in the second half which gave HG a 2-0 lead. The final goal was tallied by Mitchell McDaniel.

Jordan Peterson and Rautmann had one assist each. HG led 8-5 in shots on goal. Tiger goalie Austin Bender made five saves and Ram goalie Justin Loppnow had five.

“Overall, we played pretty well on a very wet and swampy field. The field conditions lead to a slower game where ball control was more important,” said Tiger head coach Bob Peterson.

“We passed the ball well but did not space the field well. With Random Lake’s smaller field, we didn’t stretch the field enough and tried to pound the ball in a confined space with many defenders around.

“We started the game off too tight and really struggled getting quality touches inside the 18. The second half we were able to get out into space better which allowed us to get some better shots on goal,” said Peterson.
