Utilities holding ‘bright’ food drive

Plymouth Utilities is once again hosting a Thanksgiving food drive, offering utility customers a “bright” reward for charitable donations to the Plymouth Food Pantry.

Utility customers in Plymouth are encouraged to bring food donations to the Plymouth Utilities office, 900 County PP, to support the increased need to feed local residents during the Thanksgiving holiday season. In appreciation of their contributions, Plymouth Utilities customers will receive a string of LED holiday lights or an LED light bulb with a donation of three non-perishable food items.

The food drive runs through Wednesday, Nov. 23. The utility office is open Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a limit of one light string or light bulb per household.

Compared to standard incandescent holiday lights, LED lights offer several advantages. LED lights are more efficient, using up to 90 percent less energy. They are also safer and typically last longer than standard lights. LED lights produce almost no heat and do not have the same components that cause traditional lights to burn out or combust.

“Last year our utility customers really stepped up to help their neighbors who are in need.” Energy Services Representative Frank Barth said. “We’re hoping they will continue that tremendous spirit of giving so no one in our community goes hungry this Thanksgiving season.”

Over 550 pounds of food plus $19 in cash donations were collected and delivered to the Plymouth Food Pantry and nearly 100 Plymouth Utilities customers participated in last year’s event.
