Bluegrass at St. John’s UCC Harvest Gathering

The members of St. John’s United Church of Christ, located on the northeast corner of North 13th Street and Lincoln Avenue in Sheboygan, would like to invite everyone who enjoys bluegrass music to their Harvest Gathering Saturday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 p.m.

The Harvest Gathering will feature a bluegrass gospel concert with Red Star Express. The free concert will be followed by fellowship, food and fun.

Red Star Express is known throughout eastern Wisconsin for their lively performances, fastpaced bluegrass and inspirational gospel songs and great fun on stage. Tight-knit harmonies and precision bluegrass solos weave a style that is distinct to this band from Newton.

A few years back, the band coined the phrase “Newtongrass” to explain their brand of bluegrass to the listening audience. They honor the roots of American bluegrass music, learned from the likes of Bill Monroe, the Dillards, the Stanley Brothers and others. Being composed mostly of Wisconsin natives, the band realizes that it is pretty hard for them to copy the exact style of music that is so entrenched in the culture of the southern United States.

Following the service, in a bluegrass tradition, sweet potato pie and pecan pie will be served in the Klimke Welcoming Center with apple cider, coffee or milk. Please plan on staying to join us for great food and fellowship.
