Trash collection day changing for Adell

ADELL — Mike Thun of Advanced Disposal informed the Village Board Wednesday night that garbage pickup in the village will be moved from Fridays to Thursdays. “This will start the week of Jan. 2,” Thun said.

Thun noted that when a holiday falls on the weekend, Advanced does not observe that holiday on the previous Friday or the following Monday. For example, Christmas this year falls on a Sunday, and while some businesses might be closed on Monday to give their employees a holiday, Advanced will still pick up garbage on December 26. If a holiday does fall on a weekday, Advanced will observe it.

The board voted unanimously to approve the change in weekdays of garbage pickup.

Trustee Jane Schneider reported she is still researching the life of Hildegarde Loretta Sell (1906-2005), who was born in Adell. With a career on the stage, TV, and with numerous recordings of her singing released, she was known as The Incomparable Hildegarde. She appeared on the cover of Life magazine in 1939.

Schmitt knew exactly where Sell had been born: above what was then the Question Mark Bar.

Schneider is doing further research. A street in Adell might be given a name recognizing Sell, and a sign erected in her memory. Schneider is working on what to put on that sign.

Clerk/Treasurer Kelly Rathke told the board there had been plans at the county level to revise software that handled tax accounting and pet licensing fees. “But because it’s such a busy election year, they decided to hold off until 2017,” she said.

The board unanimously approved a preliminary 2017 budget.

Director of Public Works Shawn Bigelow gave a report which included:

• He is making efforts to sell the village’s orange truck, as the board had agreed in recent months.

• On the Wisconsin Street project: storm sewer construction is nearly complete; two driveways requiring special attention are being addressed.

The board unanimously approved:

• The revision to a section of the ordinance addressing the discharge of clear water into the sewer system, a topic worked on and discussed for the past several months.

• The Adell Yeti Snowmobile Club’s request to route a portion of their trail through the Adell Park. This permission is requested, reviewed and acted upon each year.

• One operator’s license, for Kyle Dowe, at Times Remembered.

• The village Halloween party, at the Adell Firehouse on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 1:30 p.m.

• Trick or Treating in the village, from 3 to 5 p.m., Oct. 29.

• Financial support of $3,100 to the Adell First Responders.

• A resolution applying for exemption from the Sheboygan County library tax. To avoid paying a higher tax to the county library, the village will support the Lakeview Community Library in Random Lake, with a payment of $11,381.
