No way through

The railroad crossing on North Milwaukee Street is officially closed after barricades were erected at the intersection of Milwaukee and Western Avenue Wednesday. The closing, requested by the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad, was ordered by the state Commissioner of Railroads. Workers from the WSOR were at the crossing Wednesday preparing for the removal of one set rails (below) at the crossing. Eventual plans call for extending curb and gutter on the north side of Western Avenue across the former intersection to make the closing permanent.
