A special town board meeting was held at the Sheboygan Falls Town Hall Monday, Oct. 17 to discuss the details of a fire protection agreement between the town of Sheboygan Falls and the town of Lima.

In attendance was the entire Sheboygan Falls Town Board, including Town Chairman Steve Bauer, along with Supervisors Skip Theobald, Jim Hanke, Gerald Meyer, Barb Poch and Town Clerk Jenny Meyer.

The meeting was held with members of the Lima Town Board, including Town Chairman Chuck Born, along with Supervisors Tom Jens, Jim Heinen, Al Bosman and Al Price.

The joint meeting was held to discuss increasing the fee for fire protection provided by the town of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department to sections of the town of Lima.

The increase is deemed necessary due to rising costs in fire trucks and equipment.

The current amount paid by town of Lima for fire protection is $28,600.

The proposed budget for the town of Sheboygan Falls for 2017 is $86,175 and for last year it was $79,767.

The town of Lima buys fire protection services from the town of Sheboygan Falls, Waldo and Oostburg fire departments.

The dollar amount was discussed extensively among board members.

The town of Sheboygan Falls had been on a two-year contract, but at the end of negotiations the terms were set for a three-year contract.

The increased numbers were taken from the current rate of $28,600.

The first year of the fire protection agreement will feature an increase of 2.5 percent, which will bring the dollar amount to $29,315.

The second year increase is 1 percent with a dollar figure of $29,608 and the third year will have another 1 percent increase at a dollar amount of $29,904.

These adjusted numbers will be plugged into the town of Sheboygan Falls budget for 2017.

The proposed 2017 Sheboygan Falls town budget was read line by line during the meeting.

Another line-by-line budget meeting will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Sheboygan Falls Town Hall at 6pm.
