The No. 3-seeded Black Hawks, who were swept by No. 2-seeded PHS in a dual match Oct. 3, outlasted the Panthers in Thursday’s rematch, 21-25, 25- 22, 25-16, 18-25, 15-12. Grafton lost in the finals Saturday night to host Kettle Moraine Lutheran (Jackson).

In the deciding fifth game, Grafton rallied from a 12-10 deficit.

“We just couldn’t close. We had a communication blurb and then two questionable calls which threw us off a bit,” said Panther head coach Peggy Huhn.

“Ending that way is what probably leaves the sour taste in our mouths. But, all in all, we kept fighting and kept swinging at the ball.”

“Our senior class were absolute great leaders for us. We will miss those eight girls tremendously. They have left their mark on our program,” said Huhn.

The Panthers’ statistical leaders included: kills – Sophie Albert 13 and Jessica Leider 10; ace serves – Albert three; serving – Maggie Staehling 16-for- 16; solo blocks – Cece Huhn six; digs – Albert 23, Brooke Frederickson 17 and Emily Majerus 16; assists – Staehling 22, Jessica Schumacher 15; and serve reception – Albert 18-for- 18.
