Evelyn Joyce Nimmer (Nee Smith ) 87, returned to her Heavenly Father’s arms on October 28, 2016, surrounded by family.

Evelyn was born to Cedric “Ted” and Emma Smith in Granton, WI, on June 21, 1929. She studied English Ed. at UW-Madison. There she met her sweetheart Edward Nimmer. “Ed and Ev” married on July 14, 1951, and lived in West Allis.

Evelyn is survived by her devoted husband Ed, and her children: Emily (Alastair) Matthews, Margaret (Anthony) Callens, Eric (Ramona) Nimmer, and Thomas (Xiaodong) Nimmer, 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and siblings: Jerome (Beverly) Smith, Roderick (Doris) Smith, Richard Smith, and Charles Smith.

She is remembered for her love of gardening and songbirds, dessert recipes, photos she always carried, and the way she’d greet anyone with a warm embrace.

In addition to her vocation as a teacher, Evelyn also devoted much of her life to volunteer work. Most notably, she volunteered with WELS Lutherans for Life for 30 years.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4th from 9-11 AM, at ST. JOHN’S EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4001 S. 68th St, followed by the funeral service at 11 AM. Her family requests that any gifts go to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church or Christian Life Resources.
