Waldo man gets plea deal in explosives case

A Waldo man has reached a plea deal for charges related to the making of homemade explosives in February.

Daniel Shilts, 42, pleaded no contest to nine felony counts of possession of improvised explosive devices and one count of possession of explosive making materials. The other 41 counts of possession of improvised explosives initially leveled against Shilts were dismissed.

Sheboygan County District Attorney Joe DeCecco has indicated that he will recommend a sentence of eight years in prison followed by 20 years of extended supervision. Judge Kent Hoffmann will issue Shilt’s sentence.

Shilts was arrested on Feb. 20 after an explosion at his Waldo home. Officers arrived to find 10 windows had been blown out of the home, and Shilts had blood on his pants leg and a cut on his left hand.
