Walk-a-thons raise money for schools

Fairview and Horizon Elementary Schools both held fundraiser Walk-a-Thons last month.

Fairview Elementary School raised $7,118 at its annual Walk-a- Thon, which serves as the school's primary fundraiser while providing an opportunity for outdoor exercise.

Students, staff and parents participated in the walk, which was held from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. Oct. 7 on the school grounds.

Students raised pledges from relatives, friends and neighbors before the walk. The money will be used to purchase needed items for the classrooms and to pay the cost of all field trips.

The Fairview Elementary PTO, which organized the event, thanked participants as well as area businesses for making the event such a success. Businesses that supported the Walk-a-Thon include:

Merit Level ($200+): KW Electric, Masters Gallery Foods, Johnsville Foods

Gold Level ($100-200): Kwik Trip, Marshall Sign, Meyer Motor's and Sargento Foods

Silver Level ($50-100): Clark Foods, CPN Hair Studio, Haucke Plumbing & Heating, Subway

Bronze Level ($25-50): Re- Max/Bill Cain, De O'Malleys, Joseph & Joseph Dental, Lori Feldman-Schmitt Dance Studio, Pleasant View Realty and Plymouth Foam

Students at Horizon Elementary School in Plymouth raised $4,120 during the annual Horizon Walk-a-Thon, which had to be moved inside this year because of inclement weather.

All students and staff - along with many parents, grandparents and other adults - participated in the event, which was held Oct. 12 in the Horizon gym.

Students raised pledges from relatives, friends and neighbors before the walk. The money raised will help fund field trips, school assemblies and special events.
