LaVerne C. Reiss, age 91, of Elkhart Lake , passed away at St. Mary’s/Columbia Hospital in Mequon on Friday (November 4, 2016).

LaVerne was born on August 26, 1925 in Sheboygan, WI, to the late Otto and Olga (Stecker) Brendel.

She attended Howards Grove Grade School.

On February 14, 1942 she married Henry W. Reiss at her parent’s house in Howards Grove.

LaVerne was employed by Tecumseh‚“Hanson Gloves” and Cleveland Canning Co. for several years, and then owned and operated L & H Bar with her husband, Henry, for 29 years and also operated Elkhart Lake Firemans Park for many years.

Henry preceded her in death on December 19, 2004.

LaVerne was a member of Community United Church of Christ in Elkhart Lake.

Survivors include nine children: Jerry (Brenda) Reiss of Crivitz, Henrietta Feldmann of Elkhart Lake, Barbara (Fran) Schmitz of New Holstein, John (Ruth) Reiss of Elkhart Lake, Henry Jr. (Barb) Reiss of Elkhart Lake, Patricia (Jim) Krupp of Kiel, James (Liz) Reiss of Elkhart Lake, Tammy Reiss of Elkhart Lake, and Joel (Bridget) Reiss of Elkhart Lake.

She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; two sisters: Eleanora (Harold) Nick of Plymouth and Edna (late Irvin) Bender of Howards Grove; sister-in-law Marilyn (late George) Reiss of Plymouth and her loving dog, Coal, which was her baby.

LaVerne is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her sister: Hildegarde (Richard) Sachse; two brothers: Harvey (Sadie) Brendel and Gilbert (Caroline) Brendel; grandsons: Adam Reiss and Scott Hollister; sons-in-law: Richard Feldmann and Myrus Hollister; Daughters-in-law: Doris and Marlene Reiss; Brother-in-law: Earl (Lorraine) Reiss; two sister-in-laws: Marie (Jake) Schaap and Vernetta (Ardene) Allwardt.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday evening (November 8, 2016) at 7:00 P.M. at Community United Church of Christ in Elkhart Lake. Rev. Deborah Tyler, pastor of church will officiate.

Visitation will take place at the church on Tuesday (Nov. 8) from 3:00 P.M. until time of services.

Entombment will take place at the Garden of Peace Mausoleum in the Town of Sheboygan.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in LaVerne’s name.
