Eagles lose tight match in state semis

MILWAUKEE – The Sheboygan Lutheran/ Christian Eagles battled Winnebago Lutheran Academy (Fond du Lac) the whole way but came up shy, 2-1, in a Division 4 boys state soccer semifinal match Thursday night at Uihlein Soccer Park.

Christian/Lutheran ended its season with an 18-4-1 record. The No. 1-ranked Vikings (23-2-5) lost in the state championship match Saturday afternoon in overtime to Racine St. Catherine, 4-2. The Angels, who won their first state title since 2009, finished their season at 17-6-2.

The Eagles tied the game, 1-1, at halftime on a goal by Mathias Otten at the 42:39 mark. Devin Madon had an assist. The goal came on a shot to the far post from inside the 18.

Kylar Narance scored the winning goal at the 52:32 mark off a corner kick which gave the Vikings a 2-1 lead. WLA’s first goal was scored by Luke Meihack at 32:27.

Both teams had five shots on goal. Eagle goalie Nick Falconer made three saves. Viking goalie Nick Paul was credited with four saves.
