Pitsch sparks UW-S to basketball win

SHEBOYGAN – Sophomore guard TJ Pitsch, a Sheboygan South graduate, exploded for 30 points to propel the UW-Sheboygan Wombats to a 92-89 win over UW-Marinette in men’s basketball action here Monday night.

The game was the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference opener for the Wombats who improved to 2-0 overall. UW-S rallied from a 46- 39 halftime deficit. The Buccaneers slipped to 2-1 in the WCC (3-1 overall).

Sheboygan North’s Julian Jones and Sheboygan Falls’ Alex Antonie scored 24 and 15 points, respectively. Corian Davis led the Buccaneers’ attack with 33 points.

The Wombats opened their season Saturday afternoon at home with an 89-68 rout over UW-Baraboo. Jones paced UW-S in scoring with 22.

UW-S had five players who scored in double figures. Pitsch tallied 19 points, followed by Ollie Sadiq of Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah with 11, and Antonie and South’s AJ Gutierrez with 10 apiece.

“A great all-round effort. On defense, we finally got stops and controlled the glass,” said Wombat head coach William Greenwood II.

Butch Cain from Plymouth is in his second season as a Wombat assistant coach.
