Thanksgiving care

To the Editor,

The Thanksgiving holiday is a wonderful time of year when families gather from near and far to celebrate with their loved ones.

Frequently, adult children come to visit their aging or disabled relatives and discover that their loved ones are not as independent as they had been in the past and now need help and assistance and perhaps funding to purchase those services.

The Sheboygan County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) usually receives a signifi- cant increase in calls from visiting relatives immediately following a major family holiday such as Thanksgiving.

We understand that this type of situation causes a great deal of stress, anxiety and confusion for both family members and their loved ones who are elderly or disabled.

Family members and consumers may find helpful information on our ADRC website to answer their questions.

We have information on Long Term Care Funding, Aging Services, Services for the Disabled, Assisted Living, Supportive Home Care, Transportation, Caregiver resources and more.

There is also a “Frequently Asked Questions” section, access to the Sheboygan County ADRC resource guide in a downloadable PDF format, and a link to the Sheboygan County ADRC Facebook page. (www.facebook.com/Sheboygan-County-Agingand Disability-Resource-Center 582643815133028/ )

Although staff will not be available over the long Thanksgiving weekend, families or customers may call the ADRC at 920 467- 4100 and leave a message or send an email to: ADRC@Sheboygancounty.com.

Our knowledgeable and skilled Information and Assistance Specialists will respond to all contacts made over that perio, Monday of the following week.

We pride ourselves in promptly returning all calls and contacts. All calls and contacts received during normal business hours will receive a response the same day.

We hope the availability of these online resources and the assurance that we will contact you soon as possible will alleviate some of the anxiety.
