HOWARDS GROVE.The Village Board voted unanimously to approve a contract for patrol services with the village of Elkhart Lake at their Nov. 15 meeting.

Trustee Ed Pahl stated that the village would contract with Elkhart Lake for a minimum of 10 hours a week of patrol services in the village during 2017.

The contract came in under the budgeted amount of $21,500 per year.

Trustee Jeff Plass felt that this is a good move for the village.

Board members also approved joining with Elkhart Lake’s Municipal Court for processing fines and forfeitures.

Clerk/Treasurer Joanne Lesser was asked to obtain sample contracts for the police services, which will be review by a third party and completed before the end of 2016.

One officer would be assigned to the village starting Jan. 2, 2017.

The proposed 2017 operating budget of $1,556.148 was approved by a vote of 5-1. Plass discussed highlights of the budget, particularly the proposed improvements in Memorial Park.

A public hearing was set for Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 6:15 p.m., 15 minutes before the regular board meeting.

The work in progress report was reviewed. The sidewalk project is 99 percent complete, waiting on the state of Wisconsin. FEMA is 95 percent complete.

Ordinance codification has been completed and was sent back to the village attorney.

A new item was added with employee reviews. Plass said that the Personnel Committee would like to establish a documented process for filling vacancies within the village. Also, the committee would review staffing levels and employee performance.
