The nonconference game was the season opener for both teams. Seniors Olivia Stauss and Brittany Schaller chipped in with 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Tigers.

Yancy exploded for 18 points in the first half which sparked HG to a 44-11 halftime lead. Schaller tallied 11 points in the opening half.

“Overall, a nice win to start the season. Everyone got to play a lot of minutes which should help us down the road,” said Tiger head coach Heidi Georgeff.

“I thought Sam did a great job finishing around the hoop. They played behind her in the post and I thought she did well in taking advantage of that.”

The Tigers had an impressive 20 steals, led by Stauss with five. Schaller and Yancy contributed four each. Schaller dished out a team-high four assists.

Schaller, a 5-foot-4 guard, was the Tigers’ top rebounder with eight, followed by Addi Gerber with five.

“Olivia did some really nice things on offense as well as picking up her defensive pressure. Brittany had a complete all-around game,” said Georgeff.

“As a team, we shot 48 percent from the field which is a nice number to see. Defensively, I thought we controlled the rebounds and didn’t really allow them to get anything easy.”

Sophomore forward Kayla Guelig paced the Huskies in scoring with seven.
