Big first half propels Tigers to lopsided win

ALGOMA – The Howards Grove Tigers outscored host Algoma 42-26 in the first half to key a 75-59 rout in boys basketball action here Saturday afternoon.

The nonconference victory improved the Tigers’ record to 2-0. The contest was the Wolves’ season debut.

Senior guard/forward Bryce Pedrin and junior forward Eric Reinemann combined for 43 points to spark the Tigers’ attack. Pedrin poured in 23. Reinemann erupted for 15 of his 20 points in the first half to ignite HG. Pedrin tallied 12 in the opening half.

“We came out with good energy and dictated the flow of the game – pushing the ball up the floor quickly and getting some easy buckets in transition,” said Tiger head coach Wade Georgeff.

Reinemann had a strong all- around game as he led HG in steals with three and rebounds, 10. Pedrin and Malik Muhammad had a team-high five assists each.

“Malik Muhammad continued to add a spark off the bench. He is a game-changer capable of multiple things. He finished the game with 10 points and five assists,” said Georgeff.

Derek Stauss chipped in with 13 points for the Tigers who had four players in double figures.

Max Grovogel led the Wolves on offense with 15 points.
