Exhibit explores how to paint meaning of events

The newest art exhibition at the University of Wisconsin- Sheboygan features Raymond Hagerman Paintings. Hagerman’s art will be on display Dec. 6-30, 2016, with an opening reception planned for Tuesday, December 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The public is welcome and there is no admission charge. Gallery hours are Monday- Thursday (8am-9pm) and Friday (8am-6pm). The gallery is located inside the Fine Arts Building on the UW-Sheboygan campus which is located at One University Drive in Sheboygan.

Sheboygan artist, Raymond Hagerman creates paintings and drawings, principally working in oil on canvas.

He studied architecture and advertising arts, graduating from The University of Kansas with a degree in Commercial Art. After retiring from a career in sales management at Bemis Manufacturing, he picked up the paint brush once again.

With Plato’s allegory of the cave in mind, Hagerman creates work that deals with the documentation of events and the question of how they can be presented. His paintings are an investigation into representations of (seemingly) concrete events and scenes as well as depictions of ideas that can only be realized in painting.

Hagerman’s art is exhibited at the Sheboygan Visual Artists gallery, Sheboygan Chamber of Commerce and many private collections. He has received awards for his work from the Sheboygan Visual Artists as well as The University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan.

In addition to the art gallery displays, UW-Sheboygan offers other cultural opportunities, including art, music and theatre classes as well as theatrical productions and musical concerts. For more information or directions to the campus, visit, www.sheboygan.uwc.edu
