S&R Cheese on historic registry

The Wisconsin Historical Society has placed the S & R Cheese Company in Plymouth on the State Register of Historic Places.

The S & R Cheese Company was influential in the development of the cheese making industry in Wisconsin.

The S & R Cheese Company under the leadership of the Sartori family, from 1943 to 1967, was responsible for significant contributions to the manufacture of Italian style cheeses, exporting cheese products, founding cheese industry organizations, and making technical cheese advancements.

S & R Cheese Company remains a Sartori family enterprise, now run by Jim Sartori, under the name Sartori Foods. The company continues as a major manufacturer and distributor of exceptional cheese products.

The State Register is Wisconsin’s official list of state properties determined to be significant to Wisconsin’s heritage. The Division of Historic Preservation and Public History at the Wisconsin Historical Society administers both the State Register and National Register in Wisconsin.
