The Tigers, who have won four straight, raised their first-place Big East Conference record to 4-0 (5-1 overall). The Eagles dropped to 1-3 in the BEC (3-5 overall).

Senior forward Sam Yancy scored eight of her team-high 14 points in the first half to key the Tigers’ attack. Kaitlynn Near chipped in with five points in the opening half, including a three-pointer.

The Tigers held the Eagles to only one field goal in the first half and just four for the game.

HG had a season-high 25 steals, led by Ashley Reinemann with seven and Brittany Schaller, six. The Eagles struggled against HG’s full-court press which forced several turnovers. Schaller and Near paced the Tigers in assists with three each.

“I thought overall it was a good win. Our bench players got quality minutes that will hopefully help them in future games,” said Tiger head coach Heidi Georgeff.

“As has been the case with most teams we see, Christian tried to pack it in with a 2-3 zone, assuming to stop Sam Yancy. But she still led us in scoring despite playing about half the minutes she normally does in games.

“Kaitlynn Near continued to play well for us and Ashley Reinemann came off the bench to chip in six rebounds and seven steals,” said Georgeff.
