Shooting woes derail Resorters in BEC game

NEENAH – The Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah Resorters shot a frigid 28 percent (10 of 36) from the field as they fell to host St. Mary Catholic, 50-33, in Big East Conference boys basketball play Tuesday night.

The Resorters dropped to 0-4 in the BEC (1-4 overall). The Zephrys improved to 1-3 in league play (1-3 overall).

The Zephyrs broke the game open by outscoring Elkhart 25-13 in the second half. The Resorters trailed only 25-20 at intermission.

Elkhart was only 2-for-14 from three-point range.

Senior guard Max Kossman led the Resorters in scoring with 12 points. Tyler Schultz pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Grant Boyson led a balanced Zephry attack with 11 points. The team had four players with at least seven points.

“Kids played well but we shot poorly and got battered on the boards. We played without Noah Ruh [senior guard who was sick],” said Resorter head coach Ray Mlada whose team was outrebounded 38-18.

“Our full-court pressure bothered them [21 turnovers for SMC] and we handled their pressure well for the most part. The bottom line is you have to keep things much closer on the glass and hit shots on the other end.”
