Schorer leads Resorters at Kewaunee Invite

KEWAUNEE – Matthew Schorer earned third place at 220 pounds to lead the Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah/Howards Grove Resorters at the Kewaunee Wrestling Invitational Dec. 23. The meet was postponed on Dec. 17 due to bad weather.

Schorer, a sophomore at HG, won by a major decision, 17-9, in the third-place match over Kewaunee’s Paul Wery. Schorer, who had one pin on the day, finished 3-2 in the tournament.

The Resorters placed ninth in the 14-team tourney with 70 points. Bay Port won the title with 193.

Elkhart had two fourth-place finishers in Cole Entringer and Troy Rebedew at 145 and 160, respectively. Entringer was 3-2 and had two pins. Rebedew had two falls and was 2-3.

The Resorters’ other place-winners were Cody Behnke, 10th at 120; Cody Nelson, seventh, 126; Taylor Cain, seventh, 132; Max Ward, ninth, 138; Ben Meiselwitz, ninth, 152; Kurt Theobald, eighth, 170; and Jon Roll, seventh at 285.

“The guys wrestled fairly well in Kewaunee. Matthew Schorer had a great day,” said Resorter head coach Larry Ward.

“Cole Entringer had a good day going as well before being injured in the semis and not able to wrestle in his third-place match.

“I break the season down into thirds. We are heading in the second part and have plenty to improve on before we get to the state tournament series at the end. January can be a real grind,” said coach Ward.

“The kids had most of Christmas vacation off from wrestling to heal physically and mentally. The wrestler who is able to refocus and come off of break hungry to get back at it will be set to make a strong push to Madison [for state tourney].”
