Dairy Forage, Feeding Day set

The Sheboygan County Forage Council and UW-Extension will sponsor a Dairy Forage & Feeding Day Friday, Jan. 20, 10:30 a.m. at Chissy’s Restaurant, Waldo.

Discussion topics will include: “Forage Use in Wisconsin’s High Producing Dairy Herds,” and “Managing & Feeding Forages for Excellence.”

Randy Shaver, UW-Extension dairy nutritionist, will discuss “Forage Use in Wisconsin’s High Producing Dairy Herds,” and “Feeding 2016 Corn Silage.”

Tom Kestell, Waldo, will explore “Managing & Feeding Forages for Excellence.”

When it comes to dairy cattle and forages, Tom Kestell has demonstrated excellence in the industry. The Kestells’ herd average continues to inch up, just surpassing 44,000 pounds of milk, while feeding 67 percent of the dairy ration in forages.

Kestell will share his approach to managing and feeding forages and how they are a key ingredient to building a world class dairy herd.

Tom, his wife Gin, their son Chris, and his wife Jennifer, milk 130 registered Holstein cows and farm 600 acres of owned and rented land near Waldo.
