Care facility doubles dental services

Lakeshore Community Health Care has completed the first phase of renovations to its 20,000-squarefoot, 1721 Saemann Avenue facility and has begun serving patients from the new dental wing. The organization previously offered dental services a smaller location on North 8th Street.

The update added eight dental chairs, nearly doubling Lakeshore Community Health Care’s capacity to serve Sheboygan County residents. This includes an ADA accessible dental chair that allows patients in wheelchairs to receive dental services without needing to leave their chair.

Lakeshore Community Health Care is one of only a few local dental providers to accept patients on Medicaid (BadgerCare) and serves patients regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay, offering a sliding fee scale based on household income.

“Since we began providing dental services in 2012, our wait- ing list for dental services has grown to nearly 900,” said Kristin Blanchard Stearns, CEO of Lakeshore Community Health Care. “The need for dental care for under insured and uninsured patients in Sheboygan County is extensive; it’s consistently one of the top human service needs in our community.”

The organization provides integrated medical, behavioral health care and dental services in Sheboygan and also operates a facility in Manitowoc, serving Manitowoc County residents.

Phase two of the Saemann Avenue renovation focuses on the Medical and Behavioral Health Wing, adding an in-house pharmacy and updating the administrative space. Once all of the renovations are completed, early this summer, the facility will be able to serve nearly 13,000 patients annually.

With over $3.3 million raised, fundraising continues for the $6 million renovation project.

Lakeshore Community Health Care is a federally qualified; not for profit community health center, funded by a combination of federal and state grants, individual donations, United Way contributions, services fees and other sources.
