Youth Symphony to cover wide range

The Sheboygan Area Youth Symphony (SAYS) will be performing on Sunday, January 22nd at 12:30 at the Weill Center for the Performing Arts.

Michael Lund Ziegler, Director of the SAYS Concert Orchestra and Fabian Qamar, SAYS Sinfonia Director, invite you to experience the talent and enthusiasm of Sheboygan County’s young musicians.

Concert Orchestra Director Lund Ziegler stated, “Our concert offers fantastic orchestral literature with variety and impact that takes you from the Romantic era to 20th Century classics.” He added, “The concert orchestra has come so far this year; what a treat as a conductor! While these students are young, they have stepped up to the task. I can't wait to share their work and this fantastic music with you!” The SAYS Concert Orchestra presents Stravinsky’s Suite No. 2 for Small Orchestra and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C major. Lund Ziegler explained, “The Stravinsky suite is smart, cunning and a little cute, with an edge that lets you know this is the same guy who wrote Rite of Spring. Beethoven’s Symphony No.1 is a fantastic piece! His fifth and ninth symphonies get all the press, and rightfully so, because this is where it all began. In his first symphony, Beethoven took the form perfected by Mozart and Haydn and transformed it into his vaunted art for posterity. This piece is a delight, paying homage to the past and poking fun at the same time.”

Sinfonia Director Qamar stated, “Sinfonia has continued to grow in size and musical experience since the season began. We are excited to share our latest work which will take you around the world and through history.”

SAYS Sinfonia will perform excerpts from Gluck’s Iphigenia in Aulis, Del Borgo’s Erin Isle Sketches, and Bernstein’s Go West (arr. Ford). Director Qamar cited, “You will hear everything from unmistakable flavors of Irish folk music to music inspired by tales from ancient Greece, and even tunes you might recognize from a good ol’ Western movie. Come join us and support your local youth orchestras.”
