‘Memorable Movie Music’ at Weill

The Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra invites its audience to relive the excitement of beloved movies as it performs Memorable Movie Music, the fourth concert of A Season of Rich Expression, led by Music Director Kevin McMahon.

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Stephanie H. Weill Center for Performing Arts.

From science fiction and fantasy to adventure and drama, this concert celebrates 50 years of our fascination with movies.

“What’s not to love?” says McMahon. “With songs from six of the ‘Star Trek’ series, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ and the ‘Somewhere in Time’ theme, this concert promises something for all ages” adds McMahon.

“One of the most beautiful themes, the theme from ‘On Golden Pond’ reminds us of movie icons Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn,” states McMahon.

The comedic Lieutenant Kije Suite presents movie music of the Great Russian composer, Sergei Prokofiev.

The first half closes with music from “Titanic,” winner of 11 Oscars including Best Original Music Score. That piece will feature an appearance by Sheboygan Symphony Chorus member Joelle Barrett as soloist.

The second half of the program is filled with more, great movie music including “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” “Over the Rainbow” from “The Wizard of Oz” featuring the Symphony Chorus, “Dances with Wolves,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” Theme from “The Mission” featuring the Symphony Chorus and, finally, music from the James Bond 007 movies. “There will also be a fun, surprise encore,” promises McMahon.

Interludes, a pre-concert talk led by McMahon providing an in-depth look at the program begins at 6:15 p.m. It is a free event for concert ticket holders. Space is limited, and a reservation is required. For more information, email business@sheboygansymphony.org or call 920-452-1985.
