Schwarten, competing at 195 and 220 pounds, chalked up four pins.

PHS sophomore Josh Koll finished 4-1 at 138, including a technical fall and a major decision. Koll’s only loss was to Laconia’s Alec Potter, 3-2. Potter placed third in last year’s state tourney.

PHS placed fourth in the sixteam, round-robin tourney with a 2-3 record. The Panthers defeated Onalaska, 36-32, and Edgerton, 45-30. PHS lost to Laconia, 36-34; Chilton, 60-18; and Ripon, 57-14.

Chilton was the champion with a 5-0 mark.

“Jesse had an excellent day, going 5-0. Jesse has a very unique skill set of strength and speed that isn’t very common at the 195-pound weight class ,” said Panther head coach Ben Chapman.

“Josh has been making some big strides these past few weeks and is starting to peak at the right time,” said Chapman.

“We put together a decent showing this weekend at Laconia, considering we had four of our starters out of the lineup due to injury and illness. We had to put in a few first-year wrestlers, Isaac Fintak and Joe Mertes, to try to fill our lineup. I was really impressed how those two wrestled.

“They went out and battled hard. Isaac had a very exciting overtime win [7-5 in the Onalaska dual] that really pumped up the team,” said Chapman whose team is 11-10 in dual action this season.
