Panthers cruise, run winning streak to nine

CAMPBELLSPORT – The Plymouth Panthers outscored host Campbellsport 42-25 in the second half to key a 70-47 romp in an East Central Conference girls basketball game Saturday afternoon.

PHS improved to 10-0 in the ECC (15-2 overall). The Panthers lead the league, followed by Waupun with a 9-2 record. PHS ran its winning streak to nine.

Campbellsport fell to 3-8 in the ECC (6-12 overall).

Senior guard Gwen Streblow sparked the Panthers’ attack in the second half with 14 of her game-high 23 points. Senior guard Kalei Hering chipped in with all eight of her points in the final half.

The Panthers’ defense forced 27 Cougar turnovers and held Campbellsport to only 30-percent shooting from the field.

Junior point guard Emma Jewell was the Panthers’ second leading scorer with 15. Jewell propelled PHS to a 28-22 halftime lead with 11 points.

Hering paced PHS in steals with four, followed by Lydia Rhude, Lexi Lautenschlaeger and Streblow with three each. Jewell led in blocked shots with two and assists, four. Lautenschlaeger contributed three assists.

Lautenschlaeger grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

“Gwen had a great second half and had one of her best games of the year. Kalei was big in the second half,” said PHS head coach Brad Shutter.

“Emma and Gwen had real good games. Everyone contributed in the second half. Eight of our 10 players scored in the second half.”

JUNIOR VARSITY GAME

The PHS JV 1 team rolled to a 62-36 rout. The Panthers, who led 42-21 at halftime, upped their first-place ECC record to 9-1 (16-1 overall).

All 10 Panthers scored points, led by Alesha Kaat-Fohr with 11 and Courtney Casper and Ashley Batzner with 10 each. Lauren Nicholson led in rebounds with 10.

Batzner had a team-high seven assists and shared the lead in steals with Casper at three each.

“I was proud of all 12 girls. They all played a good game,” said PHS coach Mike Gumm.
