Resorters’ Ward repeats as BEC champion

Ward captured the 138-pound championship with a 19-3 technical fall over Oostburg’s Maatilor Josiah.

Ward advanced to the finals with a pin in the semifinals against Random Lake’s Peyton Mueller in 1:49.

Random Lake successfully defended its BEC title as it outscored runner-up Reedsville, 260½-250. The Elkhart Resorters placed sixth in the eightteam tourney with 97½.

Junior Jon Roll finished second for the Resorters at 285. Roll lost to Reedsville’s Zenaido Capetillo by a pin in the title match in 4:43. Roll won his semifinal match with a pin over Mishicot’s Cole Kraynik in only 34 seconds.

“Max is wrestling really well right now heading into the [postseason] tournament series. He picked up the technical fall in the conference finals wrestling aggressively,” said Resorter head coach Larry Ward.

“Roll was winning in his finals match when he got out of position in the third period and was reversed and pinned. He just needs to work on his positioning as we head into regionals.

“I was happy to see Shields and Cain continue to wrestle aggressively and pick up a couple of wins on the day as well,” said the coach.

Elkhart will compete in the Division 2 regional meet Saturday at Valders, starting at 10 a.m.
