PLYMOUTH – New storage facilities and new restroom/shower buildings at Road America got the nod Tuesday from the Plymouth Town Board.

Supervisors approved a conditional use permit and certified survey map for Tod Schmidt to allow him to construct two 50 by 150-foot mini-warehouse buildings behind the strip mall he owns on County O west of Pleasantview Road.

“I’m just trying to utilize the vacant land I have behind my building,” Schmidt told the board. He said the storage buildings would match the existing strip mall in color and material.

Schmidt noted that, at a meeting of the joint city/town planning group last week, city officials were less than receptive to his plans.

“I think it’s a good fit,” Supervisor Gene Blindauer responded. “I think what he’s doing there is going to fit better than something else would there.”

The board also approved an amendment to Road America’s conditional use permit to allow the track to construct three rest room/ shower buildings on the track property.

Road America officials explained that the new facilities are intended to improve services for fans and campers at the track. Each would likely have to be serviced by separate wells and septic systems due to their distance from each other. The wells would not be high-capacity wells.

The buildings would only be in use for five four-day weekend events during the year, the board was assured.

“This seems like a needed upgrade,” Supervisor Glenn Kruschke observed.

The board approved agreements for the coming year with General Construction Inspector Charles Mayer, Electrical Inspector Mike Chappy and Plumbing Inspector Brett Reichardt.

Town Chairman Warren Luedke reported that there is an opening on the Board of Adjustments with the resignation of Marvin Paulson.
