Four Chaplains to be remembered

The Plymouth Ladewig-Zinkgraf American Legion Post 243 invites the public to its annual remembrance of the Four Chaplains Saturday Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. at the Post clubhouse, 40 Stafford St., Plymouth.

Post members will pay tribute to four Army chaplains and Plymouth native Virgil DeMunck, who were all lost at sea. They were aboard the USADT Dorchester, with 900-plus souls aboard, when it was struck by an enemy torpedo Feb. 3, 1943.

Survivors recalled the Four Chaplains offering their life jackets to those that had none. The chaplains were last seen arms linked, offering prayer and song when the Dorchester slipped into the icy waters of the North Atlantic.

The highlight of the program is the showing of a documentary with interviews of survivors and rescuers. Light snacks and beverage will be offered. There is no charge to this memorable event.
