Richard Lee Meyer, age 77, of Plymouth, WI, passed away at home on Wednesday (February 1, 2017) surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with lung cancer.

He was born on October 27, 1939 in Chicago, IL, son of the late Walter and Mildred (Gedrick) Meyer.

Rick attended Whittemore Grade School in Whittemore, IA and graduated from Concordia High School in 1957 and Concordia Teachers College in Seward, NE in 1961. He earned a Masters Degree from Concordia Teachers College.

On July 22, 1962 he married Margaret Beckmann at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, NE. The couple resided in Plymouth since 1969. They enjoyed 10 winters in Apache Junction, AZ where they made many friends at the Indian Summer complex and Mountain View Lutheran Church.

Rick served his Lord, teaching for 16 years in Lutheran Schools, including Trinity Lutheran in Oshkosh, WI; Zion Lutheran in Thayer, NE; St. John Lutheran in Plymouth. He retired from teaching after an additional 20 years at Farnsworth Middle School in Sheboygan.

He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, serving on the school board, trustee, elder, camera crew member and usher. He served on the board of directors for the Plymouth Housing Authority for 14 years. He also served as the St. John team leader for the Plymouth Food Pantry board of directors. He was a member of Plymouth Lions for 31 years and served as secretary.

Rick enjoyed spending time with his family playing horseshoes, golf, cards and cornhole - but not Pictionary.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years: Marge of Plymouth; His step-mother: Marian Meyer of Algona, IA; Three children: Kim (Mark) Dahmer of Stevensville, MI, Susie Meyer of Sheboygan Falls and Steve (Nancy) Meyer of Lake Elmo, MN; Eight grandchildren: Samantha Heinrich (Matt Butzen) of Sheboygan Falls, Meagan (Seth) Griffin of Benton Harbor, MI, Jennifer Heinrich (Michael Knaak) of Port Washington, Caitlin Dahmer of Chicago, IL, Joshua Heinrich of Milwaukee, Molly (Lucas) Timmer of Holland, MI, Mason Meyer of Lake Elmo, MN and Mitchell Meyer of Lake Elmo, MN; and three great-grandchildren: Hayden, Riley, and Liam.

Rick is also survived by one brother-inlaw: Vernon (Ruby) Beckmann of Columbus, NE and one sister-in-law: Arlene (John “Sid” Seevers of Seward, NE.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held on February 5, at St. John Lutheran Church, 222 Stafford Street, Plymouth, WI. Rev. Nathan Meador and Rev. John Schultz, pastors of St. John Lutheran church, officiated. Interment will take place at Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Rick’s name for St. John Lutheran Church, Plymouth.
